The Family Intervention is basically a gathering where the close friends, relatives and colleagues come together for their loved ones, including a drug addict, substance or alcohol abuse and meet to persuade them to seek help for the problem that has raised. The reluctance of the close friends and family members surely help the addict to take his first step. Some of the tips you should consider while holding such interventions include:
- Try involving close friends, family and colleague: The people are the ones that are the top most priority while considering the interventions. It is said that the intervention should include at least 3 people and not more than 10. It is also important to invite those who have personal relationships with the addict and those who especially wish for his well being.
- Prepare and rehearse in advance: Meeting and rehearsing before advancing to the actual intervention, is also considered an important tip. As this lets, everyone to get feedback on their statement by sharing it. It even helps in identifying any charged emotions that are like to hamper the intervention process.
- Choose an appropriate time and location: When participating in an intervention it is appropriate to choose a time when the person is not busy or do not have any Pre commitments. This would surely decrease the distractions that can be faced during the intervention. Thus, choosing the appropriate time and venue is also important.
- Don’t be judgemental: The tone that we set upon during the intervention cause to have a bigger impact on the understanding of the addict. Having a positive and supportive tone can make the addict more willing to listen to our plea which cannot be achieved by delivering judgemental and confrontational ethos.
